Generator Permits in Hillsborough County
What the county asks for, from its own page.
Hillsborough County has a checklist for residential backup generators. A Florida EC or ER licensed contractor can apply for the electrical permit on HillsGovHub.
Two inspections are required: electrical rough-in and electrical final. A recorded Notice of Commencement is needed before the first inspection. The county asks for a site plan, and for a load calculation if the unit is smaller than your main service.
It also asks for the maker's manuals with clearance rules and for a fuel gas permit, or a note that the gas work is done by someone else. If your home is in a city with its own building department, like Plant City, check with that office.
